New Xbox 360 250GB Limited Edition Halo: Reach bundle revealed
The Halo series is no stranger to special edition Xbox 360 hardware, so it should come as no surprise that the latest entry, Halo: Reach, is also privy to such treatment. What makes it special, however, is that it’s the first special edition based on the new model – 250GB HDD, built-in 802.11n WiFi, a silver (presumably matte, based on the picture) finish, and custom, Halo-inspired sounds. The $399 price tag also nets you two special edition wireless controllers and, naturally, a copy of the game itself. Look for this September 14th, and really, if you’re not into glossy black (and we feel ya, brother), this might be in your best interest to pick up. Gaming Console War Veteran Pins Show Your Allegiance

Gaming Console War Veteran Pins Show Your Allegiance
Whether you spend your time staring down quarterbacks in Madden or leading a group of hardened marines into enemy territory in Gears of war, you’ve paid your gaming dues and earned your stripes. Now you can finally wear them proudly on your sleeve or anywhere else you like with these Console War Veteran pins.

We’ve all paid our dues, spent our time in the front lines. We’ve seen the best and worse of humanity and seen gaming console after console come and go. During all of that we’ve put up with the cry babies and the sore losers and worst of all the next door neighbor with with the sweaty palms that insisted on using your favorite game pad. We put up with the doubters and stuck with our guns, defending our chosen console to the  death, or at least until the latest model came out. Now Finally thanks to Supermandolini we can show the masses what color our gaming console blood bleeds without having to waste any of our breath.

After years of feeling misunderstood it’s good to know that the guys over at Supermandolini understand our plight and are finally recognizing the contribution we, the real console warriors are making in the fight against kids playing outside:

These pins are sixth set in a series of limited edition pin ‘medals’ that celebrate the memories of endless epic battles, infinite high scores and numerous blistered fingers

Each pin celebrates an iconic joystick/game pad from our gaming past and present. I love the great military style design and colouring of each Console War Veteran Pin making them instantly recognizable. Now all we need is a matching beret and firearm. Each enamel pin has a metal body with a gold finish and weighs 15g more or less and is about 5cm x 2.5cm in size.

Whether you get yourself a reminder of simpler days when your SNES got more use than your arthritis medication or a want to proudly declare your love for your Playstation, there’s a pin for you.

Back when Super Mario Bros was ground breaking, and 3D was nothing but a pipe dream we were rocking the NES. Gaming history without which gaming as we know it probably wouldn’t exist. We were out there fighting alongside Zelda and those tireless Italian plumbers for a life less active and now, finally, we have the medals to prove it!

We game console fanatics get marginalized as slackers, social misfits and generally undesirable members of the food chain. Proudly wearing these shiny Console War Veteran pins probably won’t do much to change the minds rest of the world but at least we’ll have something to talk about, other than which brand of sunscreen offers the best protection when forced to go outside.

Of course if you are still fighting the good fight and aren’t ready to give up on the past just yet try out the 3 in 1 Gaming Console For The Old School Geek.

Motorola Droid X gets rooted, its owners consume 5x more data than on any other Verizon smartphone

July 22nd, 2010 by cherryapple

Motorola Droid X gets rooted, its owners consume 5x more data than on any other Verizon smartphone
Well, that didn’t take long.

As it happens more often than not, rooting procedures for the newest Android smartphones are made available very soon after launch.

And it’s no different here. The Motorola Droid X, Verizon’s flagship smartphone (at least until the Droid 2 gets released) has now been rooted.

Although this does enable you to remove some of the apps that Verizon has preinstalled, you can’t run custom ROMs on the Droid X, as expected.

Still, this is big news for root enthusiasts.

Instructions, for those in the know, follow:

WE HAZ ROOTS!. Thanks to Birdman. Here is the directions.

Step 1: Set up ADB

Step 2: Push exploid to /sqlite_stmt_journals “adb push exploid /sqlite_stmt_journals”

Step 3: type “adb shell”

Step 4: type “cd sqlite_stmt_journals”

Step 5: type “chmod 755 exploid”

Step 6: type “./exploid” and follow directions on screen

Step 7: type “rootshell”

Step 8: type in password “secretlol”

Step 9: your in root!

Step 10: mount your sdcard to pc and put Superuser.apk and su in the sdcard

Step 11: unmount sdcard

Step 12: in adb (make sure your still in root with the # sign) type in:

- cp /sdcard/Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk

- cp /sdcard/su /system/bin/su

- chmod 4755 /system/bin/su

your done! feel free to kill the bloat apps snd such ;

NOTE: it might be a smart idea to do “rm /system/bin/rootshell” after you have su and superuser in place as ANY program will have access to your root if you leave it (cause everyone will know the password)

If you feel comfortable following the above to the letter, you should have your Droid X rooted in no time. Of course, the usual caveats apply. Don’t do this if you don’t know what you’re doing and be prepared to transform your smartphone into a brick if something goes wrong.

If you don’t understand the instructions, it may be safest not to employ a ‘trial and error’ tactic, but have a bit more patience until an easier to use rooting procedure is available.

In other news, Verizon began trumpeting the fact that Droid X owners use five times more data than on any other smartphone they sell, without actually mentioning any numbers. This is, without a doubt, meant to prepare Verizon customers for the upcoming tiered data plans.

So it looks like those are a near certainty at this point. Enjoy your “unlimited”, soft-capped at 5Gb data for as long as you still can!

Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7 manufacturers: ASUS, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung all on board

Microsoft confirms Windows Phone 7 manufacturers: ASUS, Dell, HTC, LG, and Samsung all on board
Microsoft is no stranger to having partners galore in the phone business, but its lineup of manufacturers for the upcoming, surprisingly promising Windows Phone 7 launch is no less impressive. After plenty of rumoring, Microsoft has confirmed that Dell and HTC will be making Windows Phone 7 phones, in addition to ASUS, LG, and Samsung who had already been confirmed. All of these companies should have their stamp on hardware by the end of the year, with the launch of the OS still vaguely slated for the “holidays.” We have no doubt that all five manufacturers can build some compelling, sexy hardware, but we’re particularly enthused to see Dell really getting into the game after the impressive Streak and that drool-worthy leak a little while back. It’s a good time to be alive if you’re a person who buys or uses phones.

Hitachi latest Wonder, the Robot EMIEW 2, which actually stands for Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Work-mate, received last june some nice little upgrade, and if unfortunately we could not attend the press conference organized by Hitachi, we have today however some nice footage of these upgrades.

Among the many upgrades that EMIW 2 received, the 2 majors ones are Voice Recognition, and adaptive suspension control technology giving EMIEW 2 better stability while crossing a door, elevator doors or even cables laying down the floor.

It is also interesting to notice that our bipedal robot has a maximum speed of 6km/h in order to match people walking skills and it is used daily in Hitachi research center to carry documents / letter from one department to another.

Motorola sues Huawei and several former employees for stealing wireless trade secrets

Motorola sues Huawei and several former employees for stealing wireless trade secrets
Man, if you thought the lawsuit action in the mobile space was crazy before, well, you ain’t seen nothing yet – Motorola just sued Huawei and over a dozen former employees for conspiring to steal its wireless trade secrets and other proprietary technology over a period of years starting in 2001. Yeah, it’s crazy. The lawsuit was originally filed in 2008 against four former Motorola engineers and a company called Lemko, all of whom Motorola accused of conspiring to stealing trade secrets related to wireless technology. After years of discovery in the case, it appears that Motorola realized the conspiracy went much deeper than it originally thought, leading the company to file a new complaint on July 16th, in which it named Huawei and nine additional former employees, who allegedly schemed to steal plans for a 3G base station called the SC300.

House passes Cellphone Contraband Act of 2010, prisoners go back to writing letters

House passes Cellphone Contraband Act of 2010, prisoners go back to writing letters
Oh, we know all about doin’ time. We watched both Oz and The Wire in their entirety, and have seen Let’s Go To Prison, like, eight times. For instance, we know that you only do two days in the joint: the day you go in, and the day you go out. And we know that tattoo guns are readily available (if you have access to an old walkman or Playstation). We also know that cellphones are contraband, and rightfully so: you wouldn’t want an inmate ordering a hit on someone, or running their record label from in “the stir.” That’s why we stand with the CTIA in support of S.1749, or The Cell Phone Contraband Act of 2010. Approved in April by the Senate, and passed by the house yesterday, this amendment to title 18 of the United States Code prohibits “possession or use of cellphones and similar wireless devices by Federal prisoners.” And once it’s signed into law by the President, we’re sure that the no-goodniks will stop sneaking handsets in and we can forget all that silly talk of prison cellphone jamming once and for all.

Nexus One sold out forever in Google’s store

Nexus One sold out forever in Google's store
Can’t say we didn’t warn you that Google only had a final batch of Nexus Ones left to sell in its special online store.

No one anticipated it will sell out so fast though. Perhaps all the media attention that this last shipment got persuaded a lot of people who used to be undecided to go and order one from Google.

One way or the other, it’s officially sold out. And since Google has made it clear that they’re not going to sell any more, if you still want a Nexus One you have to turn to Vodafone, who still sell it in some European markets, or KT Telecom in South Korea. Or, you know, eBay.

This marks the official end of Google’s phone selling experiment, that arrived with great fanfare and was said to revolutionize phone sales in America. That it didn’t do, however some of the goals Google say they had for the Nexus one, such as pushing hardware manufacturers to include bigger screens and faster processors in their products, seem to have been achieved.

From now on, you’ll have to rely exclusively on the HTCs, Motorolas, Samsungs and LGs of the world to get your Android fix. Which, if you’re the type to crave the latest OS updates as they’re released, might not be the best of things.
