Cisco to offer Wi-Fi-enabled Flip, enterprise video transcoding, and iOS video app
Cisco’s annual networking conference, Cisco Live!, is in full swing and the networking giant is unveiling the initial details on several upcoming video-oriented products. For consumer video camera buffs, Cisco is working on a Wi-Fi-enabled version of its popular Flip Video camera. Details are sparse but senior vice president of emerging technologies, Marthin De Beer, did hint that the portable camera may launch in time for the holidays. Cisco is also developing an enterprise-level video transcoding service, called the Media Experience Engine, that would allow companies to internally distribute video to a variety of platforms on the fly. Last but not least, Cisco is planning to release an iOS 4 video client for the Apple iPhone and is exploring opportunities to integrate its technologies into Apple’s FaceTime video conferencing tool.

Update gives Nokia 6700 classic free voice-guided navigation
Nokia released free voice guided navigation for their Symbian phones to lure in customers, but GPS-enabled S40 phones were left out. A new update for the Nokia 6700 classic fixes this oversight and brings a few other improvements as well.

The Nokia 6700 classic has a built-in GPS receiver and Nokia Maps, but the free navigation license is just for S60 phones, so you still had to pay if you wanted to use your 6700 classic for SatNav.

Software update sw13.10 changes that – now Nokia 6700 classic owners can enjoy free voice-guided, turn-by-turn navigation as well. The update even enables the phone to use the latest map data available (ver. 14).

The update improves on some other things as well. We often use the Nokia 6700 classic as a yardstick for 5MP cameras and Nokia claim to have improved a bit on the camera software. The new features are one-step autofocus and auto-rotation of menu text for shooting comfortably both in portrait and landscape position.

The update improves the overall stability of the Nokia 6700 classic, especially when it comes to Bluetooth audio connections.

Head to your local Nokia site and hit the support page to download the update. The update is available worldwide, except for Nokia 6700 classic phones from Orange and Telefonica Spain (they can expect the update in two weeks).

Motorola Droid 2 will Launch on 23rd August with Android 2.2?

Motorola Droid 2 will Launch on 23rd August with Android 2.2?
There has been so much speculation around for Motorola’s Droid 2 smartphone. Dubbed to challenge the iPhone with its features and quality, the Droid 2 has created huge interest from fans and critics alike on how it is going to perform when put against the iPhone 4. With Verizon wireless backing the Droid 2 as its official carrier, the competition is just going to get that little bit harder due to AT&T having the iPhone 4 supported.

News is over the web that Motorola Droid 2 will be launched by Verizon Wireless on August 23, 2010 and the big news is that it is going to have Android 2.2 as its operating system. Currently no smartphone is shipping with Android 2.2 and the Droid 2 will be the first one to have Android 2.2 out of the box. It is also speculated that an August release date is chosen for the sole reason so as to ensure that it ships with Android 2.2 operating system. The original Droid is expected to see Android 2.2 in late July and the Droid X will get it in August. Both Droid X and Droid 2 have identical hardware specifications and the software running on both the devices will be the same as well come August.

Verizon Wireless hasn’t announced any official pricing details for the Droid 2, but it is expected that it will ship at $199 with a 2 year contract.

Abarth to tune Alfa Romeos?

Abarth to tune Alfa Romeos?
Anyone who’s spent time in a desert climate knows all to well how fast a scorpion can move, and the same can be said of the reborn marque that bears the scorpion as its badge. Not just in terms of the vehicles it produces, but the busy pace which Fiat’s tuning division keeps.

With only two core models in its line-up, Abarth always seems to have something new in the works. The latest debuts were hot versions of the Fiat Punto Evo and 500C. A new purpose-built roadster is reportedly in the works again. And now reports have it that the recently revived tuning studio is preparing to branch out beyond Fiat’s own catalog and take on some offerings from Alfa Romeo.

The development follows the unification of the two Fiat Group brands under common management, a move which has already bred the Maserati edition Alfa MiTo. No word yet on exactly which Alfa models could get the Abarth treatment, but while the MiTo might seem a logical starting point, reports suggest that – with the Quadrifoglio Verde (Cloverleaf) model already on the market and a GTA still rumored to be in the works – the stylish little hatch will be immune to the scorpion’s sting.

Microsoft hints at touchless Surface combining camera and transparent OLED (video)
We’ve always wondered whether Microsoft’s multitouch table would actually ever arrive, dreaming of Minority Report hijinx all the while, but after seeing what the company’s Applied Sciences Group is currently cooking up – a touchless telepresence display – we’d rather drop that antiquated pinch-to-zoom stuff in favor of what might be Surface’s next generation. Starting with one of Samsung’s prototype transparent OLED panels, Microsoft dropped a sub-two-inch camera behind the glass, creating a 3D gesture control interface that tracks your every move by literally seeing through the display. Combined with that proprietary wedge-shaped lens we saw earlier this month and some good ol’ Johnny Chung Lee headtracking by the man himself, we’re looking at one hell of a screen.

Spy Shots: Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Spyder caught testing?
Obvious lengthy name jokes aside, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera is one heck of a performance machine. It’s all about saving weight when it comes to this car (“Superleggera,” after all, means “super light”), so it strikes us as something of a surprise to see this prototype of a Spyder version out testing on the Nürburgring.

Most noticeably, the hardtop Superleggera’s rear wing is gone, but the large front spoiler and rear diffuser make it clear that this Gallardo means business. Besides, Lamborghini has been known to keep weight under control with its Erector Set roof assemblies, so we’d expect the Superleggera Spyder to generate the same sort of super lightweight thrills with a whole lot more wind in your hair.

Expect to see the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera Spyder (now that’s a mouthful) at the Paris Motor Show later this year. For now, click through our gallery below for the full raft of high-res spy shots.

Google modifies its policies in China, resumes hosting some content on Chinese servers

Google modifies its policies in China, resumes hosting some content on Chinese servers
Well, it looks like that “entirely legal” workaround to Google’s censorship woes in China may not have been the answer the company hoped it was. Faced with the possibility of China revoking its license to operate in the country (in addition to blocking the site), Google has now stopped automatically redirecting Chinese users to to its Hong Kong website and is simply presenting them with a link to Google.com.hk instead. What’s more, Google has now also starting hosting some content on Chinese servers again, including maps, music and translation services that it says cannot be censored, and which can be accessed on Google.com.hk from within mainland China. Google will continue to host its main search operations on servers in Hong Kong, however, and it still remains to be seen if these changes will be enough to ensure it keeps its license – China will reportedly decide that on Wednesday.
